You can call me Sky.

As a game designer…

I tend to focus on the relationships between game systems, narrative, and user experience (often referred to as game feel), constructing game systems that support a player’s embodiment of their character, heighten the narrative themes on a more visceral level, or drive an emotional response within the player.

These goals require a rigorous testing and iteration cycle, which means that I as a designer am often building prototypes and making these in-engine revisions myself.

As a user researcher…

I strive for efficient, ethical, and effective data collection, viewing and presenting data within context. Gathering lots of data can do more harm than good when done under an untrained eye, as nuisance factors, research flaws, and logical fallacies in data processing can lead a team down the wrong path.

I’m also a firm believer that research must be timely for it to be effective, which requires me to maintain a careful balance between professionalism and urgency.

As an artist…

I was formally trained in Maya, Photoshop, and Substance while I was earning my AAS degree at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, OR. I currently have over 6 years of experience in all of the above software tools, in addition to 3 years of Blender, Marmoset Toolbag, and Fusion 360.

Given my design and technical background in other areas, I’m fully capable of managing an art pipeline from concept to engine. 3D art portfolio samples are available upon request.

As a leader…

I aim to uplift my team, balancing their needs, concerns, and ideas with each other and my own. To this end, I believe that finding a project’s golden path involves synthesizing ideas and input from the entire team, not the unquestioned vision of a single person.

It’s a role that I often find myself sought out to fill, rather than seeking it out myself.

As a writer…

I’ve studied fiction and nonfiction my entire life, first aiming to write and direct for TV & film as a kid, before shifting focus towards design as I aged. I was published in Perceptions Magazine under their short fiction category in 2018, at the age of 18.

In the years since, I’ve shifted focus towards writing nonfiction, studying the relationships between games, politics, and violence.

As a person…

I study fashion, history, and aviation in my free time, when I’m not playing or making games. Some favorites include F.E.A.R. (2005), S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (2007), Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (2004), Resident Evil 4 (2005), Titanfall 2 (2016), the Battlefield series, and countless more indie releases.

I also consider bodybuilding a serious hobby, and aim to compete in a natural league before the age of 30.
